Watering Your Orchid Garden
One of the questions we get most often is how to care for an Orchid Garden.
First things first - “What’s an orchid garden?”
Orchid Gardens are orchid arrangements that combine orchids, succulents, and other houseplants in a beautiful tropical oasis. Some of these plants will be placed with their own individual grow pots inside the orchid garden. You can tell if you’ve purchased an orchid garden because they are placed in a larger pot and there is more than one plant within the arrangement.
It will look something like this:
Here’s one of the most important things to note about your orchid garden: There is no drainage in the pot - so watering your orchid garden will be completely different than watering a typical phalaenopsis orchid.
When caring for your orchid garden, use your fingers to touch the orchid garden medium and feel for dryness for each plant. Note that some plants may need more frequent watering than others. You do not need to take the orchid garden apart to water. You can water each plant within the orchid garden arrangement.
Once you’ve felt the medium, If it feels dry to the touch, it’s time to water.
This will happen about once a week.
Take a measuring cup and pour ¾ cup of water into the base of each plant in your orchid garden.
Because there’s no drainage in the pot, you’ll need to be extra careful about not over watering as it can lead to orchid rot.
That’s it!
You can expect your orchid garden to last about six weeks. Once the blooming cycle has ended, you can remove each plant and follow post-bloom care instructions for each plant.
Enjoy those gardens!
